It cuts cable! And is a good compromise between the $50 crap that didn't work and the Kleins and Greenlees that cost double to triple. As you can see in the picture, a strand or 2 was pulled and snapped as opposed to cut. But that is 4/0 welding cable and likely the biggest challenge for this type of cutter.Edit 2015 05 14Much better after a little sharpening! The third photo is after sharpening with a tapered grinding point in a drill. Now it cuts great. And didn't take much. After sharpening it's a 5 star tool. The grinding point was similar to this http://www.amazon.com/US-Forge-Mounted-Grinding-4-Inch/dp/B003NVKSLO/ref=sr_1_19?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1431631191&sr=1-19&keywords=grinding+pointThis was for a project to wire an 8 battery bank into my boat, Also needed a crimping tool, bought that here on amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GXQ2E5E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 My review for that is pending approval. So with <$200 in tools I've got a pretty good setup for my wiring project! While building a new addition, I upgraded our home's electric service from 200 amps to 400 amps. I bought these cutters to cut the 500 MCM cable, which is the size of the main service conductor. I also, ran 3/0 parallel copper conductors from my 400 amp disconnect to my 400 amp Cuttler Hammer panel. Plus, I had to run 1/0 copper as my grounding conductor from two new 10 feet ground rods I installed. These cutters cut the 1/0 and 3/0 cables like butter. Nevertheless, I'm not an electrician; so, I'm only evaluating these based on the couple dozen or so cuts I made with them. An electrician cutting larger cable like this frequently, would likely want to purchase more expensive cutters like Klein or Greenlee.I cut 500 copper and CLX cable on a daily basis with these for quite a while now. Still going still cutting.Okay I could have spent five times as much for a name brand.I laugh at my buddies with their 300 dollar cutters and I am saved money. My only complaint it that the release doesn't seem to work, once you start a cut you got to finish. This makes the ringer function not a good option for wire stripping or cable stripping.Returned… handles were not secure an seemed like they were not built wellPrice was great and the tool works goodexelent tool for the jobWorked great for a bunch of 500MCM cuts. Difficult to cut it completely while holding it--found it to work best to rest stationary handle on a wooden box, with the ratcheting handle on top & then used both hands to push done & cut.i would not buy this product again, they arrived broken with missing lock, they are cheap version of a a decent cutter, they are not very sharp, they slip when put under load and blade is aluminum. I gave mine away I was so un happy. I am sorry just being honest, save your money.
